From the Heartland

Went for a ride with good friend Bob Fila, looking for barns.
Came across a few other things as well. From Monroe, WI, through DeKalb, IL.
Bob was hoping to see some clouds, but I didn't mind the large graduated blue color.
I hope you enjoy looking at these images

Off Camera flash in a big space

Location shoot @ Midway Airport in Chicago, worked around a video crew to make stills for a cable television show. Group and individual pics in a near empty hangar - gelled a few flashes to add a bit of color to a dark background. A total of five flashes used on stands, three in the background @ 1/4 power were gelled w/blue, two in the foreground @ 1/2 power were diffused with Sto-Fen Omni-bounce diffusers next to the video lights to mimic their set up. Flashes were triggered with four Pocket Wizard plus units and one Wein peanut optical slave trigger, (ran out of PW's). The most difficult part of the shoot was pushing the other planes out of the way onto the runway... just kidding.

Dreamy springtime

A Mother's Day walk in the woods this morning...

Blues man

I made some images in my studio of a friend, Fernando Jones, who is an educator, author, actor and musician. I used speedlights and small optical slaves. To find out more about Fernando, go to:

Chad and Jeremy @ Fitzgerald's

05.07.10. Berwyn, IL. Chad and Jeremy, the 1960's folk/pop duo performed @ the venerable Fitzgerald's this Friday evening. They entertained with wonderful harmonies, as well as humorous stories and quirky songs, including a cover of the "Shadows" famous instrumental "Apache" with original 'choreography'. A fun evening of sweet sounds and memories. Photo by Glenn Kaupert. © Glenn Kaupert, 2010.

Making some illustrations from Johhny A pix

Illustration from pix made @ SPACE in Evanston, IL of guitarist Johnny A. This piece included four layers, three filters, and three blend modes, along with a bit of letter spacing, (kerning), of the text in the final composite. The slow shutter of the camera and artful lighting of the performance added to the dramatic feel and color.
